Baton Rouge – Colonel Robert P. Hodges has appointed Major Robert "Bo" Lummus to Lieutenant Colonel as the agency's Deputy Superintendent of the Bureau of Investigations. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is responsible for investigating criminal activity, gathering intelligence, and providing case and technical support across the state. The Bureau includes the Force Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, and the Gaming Enforcement Division.
LTC Lummus has served as a law enforcement professional for 27 years, including 17 years with the Louisiana State Police. Beginning his career at Troop G in Bossier City, LTC Lummus has served as a Troop G Patrol Trooper, Criminal Intelligence Unit Trooper, and a sniper on the LSP SWAT team. Before his appointment to Lt. Colonel, he held supervisory positions in Criminal Investigations and Criminal Intelligence, served as the Captain/Commander of the Region 3 Criminal Investigations Division, and most recently as the Statewide CID Major/Command Inspector. LTC Lummus has played key roles in developing training programs for the Bureau of Investigations and previously served as the Emergency Support Function Manager for Northwest Louisiana, overseeing critical response operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has led investigations into complex violent crimes, officer-involved shootings, and managed major events, including mass gatherings and disturbances. Before joining LSP, LTC Lummus served 10 years with the Shreveport Police Department, where he was assigned as a team leader in the Narcotics Unit and served as a sniper on the Special Response Team.
LTC Lummus is a proud graduate of the DEA Drug Unit Commander's Academy and the FBI LEEDA's three-phase Leadership Institute, where he received the Trilogy Award. In addition, he has earned numerous certifications, including Homicide Investigation, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, and Advanced Undercover Techniques and Survival. His dedication and commitment throughout his investigative career have earned him numerous awards and commendations, including the Louisiana State Police Medal of Valor, Plainclothes Trooper of the Year, Meritorious Service, and multiple Unit Citations and Leadership Awards.
