Baton Rouge – Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:00 p.m., detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested to investigate a shooting incident involving the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office on Max Brumfield Road in Franklinton.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Washington Parish Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 18-year-old Brian Archuleta of Franklinton. Archuleta refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the Malibu traveled off of the roadway and crashed. After the crash, a deputy exited their vehicle. The Malibu then traveled toward the deputy. The deputy discharged their service weapon at the oncoming vehicle, and the Malibu crashed off the roadway again. After crashing for the second time, Archuleta fled on foot before being apprehended by deputies.
A deputy was injured in the incident and was transported to a local hospital. Archuleta and a passenger in the Malibu were uninjured during the incident.
Louisiana State Police is the lead investigating agency in this officer-involved shooting. The scene is being processed by Louisiana State Police Detectives. The investigation remains active and ongoing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
