Louisiana State Police Detectives Continue Investigation into Port Barre Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting
Louisiana State Police detectives continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Rayne Road in Port Barre on June 25, 2025. The incident resulted in the arrest of 17-year-old Brylon Hebert of Port Barre.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an officer was conducting an investigatory stop on a vehicle with three occupants. As the officer approached, two passengers fled on foot, while the driver was instructed to stop the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Hebert, refused to comply with the officer's verbal commands. During the encounter, an officer discharged their service weapon toward the vehicle, striking Hebert. Hebert then exited the vehicle and was detained. First aid was immediately administered prior to Hebert being transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was later released.
As the investigation progressed, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Hebert through the St. Landry Parish 27th Judicial District Court for LA RS 40:966 Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, LA RS 40:1060.13 Possession of a Legend Drug, and LA RS 14:95 (E) Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. On June 26, 2025, Hebert met with Detectives and was processed into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the above charges. This investigation remains ongoing.
