Lake Charles Man Killed in Jeff Davis Parish Crash
Iowa – On August 27, 2026, shortly before 11:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 165 at its intersection with Pinehill Cemetery Road. The crash claimed the life of 59-year-old Shannon Duplechain of Lake Charles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Freightliner dump truck was traveling east on Pinehill Cemetery Road, approaching its intersection with U.S. Hwy 165. At the same time, a 2022 Freightliner M2 truck, driven by Duplechain, was traveling south on U.S. Hwy 165. For reasons still under investigation, the dump truck failed to yield at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and struck the M2 truck.
Duplechain, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the dump truck, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries.
Although impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police reminds motorists to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling through intersections and entering roadways. Drivers should ensure the roadway is clear, yield to approaching traffic when required, and allow adequate time and distance to safely react to changing traffic conditions. These simple precautions can help prevent serious injuries and save lives.
