Kentwood Man Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in St. Tammany Parish Crash

Franklinton – Shortly after 2:15 p.m. on June 1, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 450, approximately 1 mile north of LA 25, in St. Tammany Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 89-year-old George Cole of Kentwood.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford F-350 was traveling north on LA 450. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree.

The driver was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Cole, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On June 2, 2026, Troop L was notified that Cole succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make responsible choices when driving: avoid impairment, fatigue, and distractions. Follow traffic laws and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives. Additionally, ensuring that vehicles are properly maintained and addressing potential mechanical issues when they arise can help reduce the likelihood of unexpected equipment failures. Safe driving habits and well-maintained vehicles work together to keep Louisiana's roadways safer for everyone.
