Jeanerette - On July 24, 2025, just before 4:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a serious injury crash involving a juvenile pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 674 (E Admiral Doyle Drive) near the intersection of Whitney Drive in Iberia Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 11-year-old Nahelie Sinitiere of Jeanerette.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Sinitiere was attempting to cross LA Hwy 674 from the eastbound shoulder. At the same time, a 2007 Honda Civic was traveling east on LA Hwy 674. For reason still under investigation, Sinitiere entered the eastbound lane and was struck by the Honda.

The driver of the Honda was not suspected of being impaired and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no alcohol was detected.
On July 28, 2025, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified that Sinitiere succumbed to her injuries. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge both motorists and pedestrians alike to exercise heightened awareness, prioritize safety, and adhere to all traffic regulations on our roadways. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly in residential areas and areas frequented by children. It is equally important for communities to work together in promoting safe pedestrian practices, such as utilizing designated crosswalks and being vigilant when near roadways. By fostering a culture of safety and shared responsibility, we can collectively strive to prevent similar incidents and ensure the well-being of all road users.
