Terrytown – On Friday, April 18, 2025, around 8:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a crash involving a pedestrian on LA 428 at Nile Drive in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 10-year-old Kevin Madrid of Terrytown.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Madrid was part of a group of children crossing LA 428 near Nile Drive. At the same time, a 2012 BMW 750i was traveling east on LA 428, approaching Nile Drive. For reasons still under investigation, Madrid and the other children entered the eastbound lane of LA 428, in an area without a designated crosswalk, and crossed directly in front of the BMW’s path. As a result, Madrid was struck by the BMW, suffered severe injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. No other children in the group were struck.

At the time of the crash, the driver of the BMW was properly restrained and uninjured. During the investigation, Troopers observed no signs of impairment in the BMW driver and determined that the driver was not impaired. The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed a result under the legal limit. This crash remains under investigation.

Adhering to pedestrian safety practices is essential for preventing roadway incidents. Pedestrians should always utilize designated crosswalks when crossing streets to ensure maximum visibility and protection. When walking near a roadway, always wear high-visibility clothing and walk against the flow of traffic, allowing you to observe oncoming vehicles better and respond appropriately. By consistently following these guidelines, pedestrians can greatly reduce the risk of collisions and contribute to safer shared roadways.
