New Orleans – On November 30, 2021 representatives from Louisiana State Police, New Orleans Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, collectively known as VCAIT (Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team), began assisting the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office with an auto theft investigation. Detectives received information regarding a 2012 Ford F-150 which was utilized in several auto thefts.
The investigation led LSP detectives to the intersection of Poland Avenue and Dauphine Street in New Orleans, where the 2012 Ford F-150 was located. Detectives from VCAIT, IFAT (Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft) and HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program), conducted a traffic stop with the vehicle on Poland Avenue and N. Robertson Street.
During the investigation, detectives identified the passenger as Cuong “Slim” Nguyen and located a stolen Glock 9mm firearm in the passenger area of the vehicle. Nguyen was recognized to be a person of interest in numerous burglaries, robberies and shootings. Nguyen was also in possession of a backpack which was found to contain 28 grams of Marijuana, 30 grams of Methamphetamine, 12 grams of Cocaine and additional paraphernalia consistent with the distribution of narcotics.
As part of the continued investigation, on December 1, 2021 a search warrant was executed at Nguyen’s residence which led to the findings of approximately 2.5 pounds of Methamphetamine and additional firearms.
As a result of the investigation, Nguyen was arrested for Felon in Possession of firearm, Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, Possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, Possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and Possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS. Nguyen was also determined to be a person of interest for other crimes that occurred in the New Orleans area which will be investigated by the New Orleans Police Department. Nguyen was transported to the Orleans Parish Jail and booked accordingly.
