New Iberia – On January 28, 2026, shortly before 12:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 674 near Cherri Lane in Iberia Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 18-year-old Jailon Rhine of Jeanerette.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Cadillac XTS, driven by Rhine, was traveling east on the LA Hwy 674. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F-350 was traveling west on LA Hwy 674. For reasons still under investigation, the Cadillac collided head-on with the front of the Ford.
Rhine, who properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
