The investigation into the October 16, 2025, deputy-involved shooting involving the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) has resulted in an arrest warrant for 60-year-old Paul Blanchard of Pierre Part.
Detectives learned that the incident began when Blanchard confronted an individual performing lawn care work at a residence. During the initial encounter, Blanchard made racially charged remarks toward the individual before leaving. A short time later, Blanchard returned armed with a shotgun and fired at the victim, striking him. The victim ran into the residence as Blanchard followed inside while still armed. Inside the home were three other occupants, one of whom was a juvenile. Blanchard then left the residence.
Shortly after, APSO deputies responded to reports of the shooting. Upon arrival, the Assumption Parish Sheriff and a deputy located the gunshot victim. While searching the area for the suspected shooter, they encountered Blanchard nearby. During the encounter, Blanchard fired a shotgun in the direction of the Sheriff, grazing him. The deputy then discharged their service weapon, striking Blanchard.
Both Blanchard and the original shooting victim were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff sustained minor injuries, and the deputy was uninjured.
Blanchard remains hospitalized at this time and will be processed at the Assumption Parish Detention Center when medically cleared. As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Blanchard today through the 23rd Judicial District Court on the below charges:
• LA R.S. 14:27/30 – Attempted 1st degree murder (2 counts)
• LA R.S. 14:37.4 – Aggravated assault with a firearm (3 counts)
• LA R.S. 14:37.2 – Aggravated assault on a police officer
• LA R.S. 14:107.2 – Hate crimes
• LA R.S. 14:60 – Aggravated burglary
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time. Additional details will be released in coordination with the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office when appropriate.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office provided the following statement, “Following the officer-involved shooting on Bayou Drive in Pierre Part, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office requested the Louisiana State Police to conduct an independent investigation. Sheriff Falcon expressed full confidence that the LSP investigation will be thorough, precise, and impartial, with all findings submitted to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution. He also voiced his trust that District Attorney Ricky Babin and his staff will ensure justice is served for all parties affected by this incident.”

Louisiana State Police Detectives Continue Investigation of Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy-Involved Shooting
Louisiana State Police Detectives continue the investigation into the October 16, 2025, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Bayou Drive.
The preliminary investigation revealed that APSO deputies were responding to reports of a shooting at a residence on Bayou Drive. Upon arrival, the Assumption Parish Sheriff and a deputy located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. While searching the area for the suspected shooter, they encountered an individual nearby. During the encounter, the suspect fired a weapon toward the Sheriff. As a result, the deputy discharged their service weapon, striking the suspect.
Both the original shooting victim and the suspect were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff sustained minor injuries during the incident, and the deputy was uninjured. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation in its early stages. Detectives continue to gather evidence and information to determine the facts of the incident. Further information will be released when it is appropriate and becomes available.

Louisiana State Police Detectives Investigating Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office
Deputy-Involved Shooting
Pierre Part - On October 16, 2025, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division – Houma Field Office were requested by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Bayou Drive.
Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information. The preliminary investigation revealed deputies were responding to a shooting at a residence on Bayou Drive, where one victim was struck.
During the encounter, an exchange of gunfire occurred between a subject and a deputy. One individual was struck and transported to a hospital with serious injuries. One deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene. This is an active investigation; further information will be released when it becomes available.
