Head-On Crash Kills Both Drivers in Terrebonne Parish

Houma On December 27, 2023, shortly before 5:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 182 near Sugar Ridge Drive. The crash claimed the lives of 34-year-old Melissa Stelly and 28-year-old Duncan Prentice, both of Houma.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed Stelly was traveling east on LA Hwy 182 in a right curve while driving a Ford F-350. At the same time, Prentice was traveling west while driving a Ford F-150. For reasons still under investigation, the F-350 crossed the centerline and struck the F-150 head-on. After the collision, the F-150 traveled off the roadway into Bayou Black and overturned. Both vehicles then became engulfed in fire.

 

Restraint usage by both drivers is still being determined due to fire damage. Both drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

 

Standard toxicology results are pending for both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.

Troop C has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 33 fatalities in 2023.
