Lacombe - This morning, shortly after 6:15 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 434 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 68-year-old Alton Henry of Hammond.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2024 Volvo VNL, driven by 28-year-old Ankit Khanci of Fresno, California, was eastbound on Interstate 12. At the same time a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Henry, was also eastbound on Interstate 12 directly in front of the Volvo. For reasons still under investigation, the Volvo struck the rear of the Chevrolet. After impact the Chevrolet traveled off of the roadway to the right and impacted a large tree.
Henry was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Volvo was also unrestrained but was not injured. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis. This investigation remains ongoing and charges are pending.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
