Concordia Parish – On November 4, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 at Nations Road. The crash claimed the life of 39-year-old Lekita L. Mehta of Ferriday.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 35-year-old Rozaven P. Thompson of Clayton, was westbound on U.S. Highway 84.  For reasons still under investigation, the 2017 Malibu crossed the centerlines into the eastbound travel lane and collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu.

Thompson, who was not restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mehta, Thompson’s passenger and also not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger of the 2024 Malibu, who were restrained, sustained no injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. Impairment is a suspected factor in this crash.

As part of the investigation, Troopers placed Thompson under arrest for driving while intoxicated (1st offense). This crash remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.

Louisiana State Police would like to remind all motorists that if you feel differently, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and other drugs have many effects on the body that negatively affect driving skills. These drugs can impair visual ability, alter the sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver. Not doing so can have deadly consequences.
