Harahan – On Friday, July 18, 2025, around 2:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a two-vehicle crash involving an electric scooter on LA 3154 near Citrus Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Christopher Harris of Harahan.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Harris was riding an electric scooter entering the right southbound lane on LA 3154, near Citrus Boulevard, from a parking lot. At the same time, a 2025 Honda CR-V was traveling in the right southbound lane on LA 3154. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda impacted the scooter.
Harris suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and uninjured. During the investigation, Troopers observed no signs of impairment in the Honda driver and determined that the driver was not impaired. The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed a result under the legal limit. At the time of the crash, Harris was not wearing a helmet. This crash remains under investigation.
While Louisiana law allows electric scooters and other low-speed vehicles to be driven on roadways, necessary safety precautions should be taken to help prevent tragic incidents. Never operate a low-speed vehicle on highways with a speed limit greater than thirty-five miles per hour, and follow all traffic laws. Lastly, while anyone operating an electric scooter is encouraged to wear a helmet for safety, anyone under 17 must wear one. By consistently following these guidelines while operating a low-speed vehicle, operators can significantly reduce the risk of crashes and contribute to safer shared roadways.
