Early Morning Crash on Interstate 10 Claims Life of Albany Man
Port Allen – On March 3, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 10 east near milepost 147 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 51-year-old Phillip Scott of Albany.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 International tractor-trailer was traveling east on Interstate 10. Traffic was stopped in the area due to construction. At the same time, a 2016 International box truck, driven by Scott, was also traveling east and approaching the stopped traffic. For reasons still under investigation, Scott failed to stop and rear-ended the tractor-trailer.
Scott was properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. A passenger in the box truck was also properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the tractor-trailer was properly restrained and was uninjured. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples will be collected and submitted for analysis.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make responsible choices when driving: avoid impairment, fatigue, and distractions. Follow traffic laws and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives.
