Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in St. Helena Parish

St. Helena Parish – On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, around 1:15 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L were notified of a single-vehicle crash on LA 43 at Guy Road. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 54-year-old Tonya Bamber of Greensburg.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Bamber was driving a 2023 Hyundai Palisade north on LA 43 near Guy Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai ran off the right side of the roadway and impacted a tree, before becoming engulfed in flames. Bamber suffered fatal injuries and died on scene. Restraint use and impairment is unknown. A routine toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers want to emphasize to the public that driving at higher speeds significantly raises the risk of sustaining serious injuries or death in the event of a crash. Additionally, increased speeds lead to decreased reaction times and require a longer distance to safely bring your vehicle to a stop. While not all crashes can be survived, following speed limits and obeying other traffic regulations enhances overall safety on the road.
