New Orleans – On Sunday, September 8, 2024, around 9:00 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle crash on the Crescent City Connection Bridge in Orleans Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 69-year-old Andrew Perrin of Lafitte.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Perrin was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla and entered US 90B east from the General DeGaulle Drive (LA 428) on ramp. At the same time, a 2021 Kia Telluride was driving east on US 90B near the LA 428 interchange. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed all eastbound lanes and entered the Kia's path. As a result, the Kia struck the left side of the Toyota. Both vehicles then ran off the road and struck the cement barrier.

Perrin, who was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Kia was properly restrained and suffered minor injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, properly using seat belts significantly improves your chances of survival and reduces the severity of injury in the unfortunate event of a crash. Impaired and distracted driving continues to be a major factor in crashes throughout our state. Never drive under the influence, and stay focused on the road. Following these simple precautions and adhering to traffic laws can make a substantial difference in road safety.
