Driver Killed in Crash on LA 16 in Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish – On Thursday, December 15th, 2022, shortly after 3:00 PM, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 16 near Simms Road in Livingston Parish.  The crash ultimately claimed the life of 18-year-old Jaxen Joseph Ray of Denham Springs.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that Ray was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro southbound on LA 16 at a high rate of speed.  While attempting to pass several vehicles in a curve, Ray crashed into a northbound Ford F-250 that was pulling a trailer.   Ray sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the F-250 and a juvenile passenger sustained minor injuries.  Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is not suspected to be contributing factor in this crash. Restraint use by Ray is unknown at this time.  As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected from both drivers for analysis.

Speed, impairment, distractions and lack of seatbelt continue to represent contributing factors in crashes investigated by the Louisiana State Police.  These preventable crashes often have life altering consequences for all parties involved. Please speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions while driving.
