DeRidder – On May 20, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 112 near Forrest Simmons Road. The crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Michael Pharis of Boyce.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Pharis was traveling east on LA Hwy 112 while driving a 2019 Dodge Charger. At the same time, a Freightliner 18-wheeler was traveling west. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge crossed the center line and struck the side of the 18-wheeler. After the collision, the 18-wheeler overturned.
Both drivers were properly restrained. Pharis suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered minor injuries.
Although impairment is not suspected, a standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, being sober, attentive, and alert while on the road is essential. Doing so can help prevent crashes, ensure safety, and enable quick responses to potential hazards.
