Driver Arrested for Vehicular Homicide, Other Charges Following Fatal Lafourche Parish Crash
Lafourche Parish – On August 5, 2022, 20-year-old Jaquan-Maleek Hebert of Golden Meadow was arrested on charges related to a fatality crash that claimed the life of 43-year-old Michael Guill.
Following the July 11, 2022, fatal crash, Troopers worked to determine who was driving the GMC truck. The investigation found significant evidence placing Hebert as the driver at the time of the crash. A breathalyzer sample collected from Hebert the morning of the crash also showed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Hebert eventually confessed to being behind the wheel.
Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Hebert and booked him into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on the charges of vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, felony hit and run driving, establishing of speed zones, careless operation, operating a vehicle while license is suspended, safety belt use, secretary to require periodical vehicle inspection, violations of registration provisions, security (motor vehicle liability insurance) required, and owner to secure registration.

Cut Off Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Lafourche Parish Crash
Cut Off – On July 11, 2022, shortly before 1:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 1 near West 55th Street. The crash claimed the life of 43-year-old Michael Guill of Cut Off.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA Hwy 1 when it traveled off the roadway while in a curve. The driver attempted to return to the roadway but overcorrected causing the truck to rotate while traveling off the roadway before overturning into Bayou Lafourche and becoming submerged.
Guill was unable to exit the submerged truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. An additional occupant in the truck was able to exit the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. Seatbelt use for the two occupants is unknown at this time.
This crash remains under investigation as Troopers work to determine who was driving at the time of the crash. Further information will be released when it becomes available.
