New Orleans – On Saturday, October 4, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a two-vehicle crash on US 90B near General De Gaulle Drive, in Orleans Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 36-year-old Lonnie Thompson of Westwego.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Thompson was driving a 2022 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle west on US 90B on the Crescent City Connection Bridge, approaching General De Gaulle Drive. At the same time, a 2012 Acura TL, driven by 26-year-old Azaria Scott of Terrytown, was also traveling west on US 90B, on the Crescent City Connection Bridge, approaching General De Gaulle Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Acura impacted the rear of the Can-Am.

Thompson, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Troop B was notified that Thompson died due to his injuries from the crash.

After the crash, Scott attempted to flee the scene. Troopers quickly found Scott and the Acura disabled on the General De Gaulle Drive exit ramp. During the on-scene investigation, Scott exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested. She provided a proper breath sample, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. She was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Driving While Intoxicated (1st Offense), Reckless Operation, and Hit and Run. Following Thompson succumbing to his injuries, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Scott for Vehicular Homicide. On Monday, October 13, 2025, Scott was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. This crash remains under investigation.

Far too often, Troopers see the tragic results of preventable crashes. Louisiana State Police urge motorists to plan ahead before consuming alcohol. Impaired driving, whether from alcohol, drugs, or both, is dangerous and can have deadly consequences. Always avoid driving or riding with an impaired driver; ensure all passengers are properly restrained; when riding motorcycles, always wear a DOT-approved helmet; and always stay focused on the road. Making responsible choices can save lives.
