Hackberry – On April 15, 2026, shortly before 8:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 near Solley Baker Road. The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old William Rester of Deridder.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2018 Toyota C-HR, driven by Rester, was traveling north on LA Hwy 27. At the same time, a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling south on LA Hwy 27. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed the centerline into the southbound lane and struck the Nissan head-on.
Rester, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Nissan, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
