Cameron – Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division continue the investigation into the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) deputy-involved shooting that occurred on October 23, 2026.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the CPSO received a 911 call from a female who reported she had been kidnapped by a male subject. Deputies located the suspect vehicle, and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, the vehicle stopped near the Cameron Ferry, where the female passenger attempted to exit. A pursuing CPSO deputy stopped his patrol unit and exited as the male subject actively prevented the female from escaping the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then moved toward the deputy, resulting in the deputy discharging his firearm and striking the male subject. The male subject immediately received medical aid before being airlifted to an out-of-area hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
