Bicyclist Struck and Killed in Hit and Run Crash in Jefferson Davis Parish

Jennings – On June 6, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D was notified of a fatal hit and run crash involving a bicyclist on LA Hwy 1126 just west of Farm Supply Road in Jefferson Davis Parish. The crash claimed the life of 73-year-old Jerry W. Hughes of Welsh.
The preliminary investigation revealed Hughes was riding a bicycle east on LA 1126 when he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling east. After striking Hughes, the vehicle fled the crash scene.

Hughes suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was collected from Hughes and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

The suspect vehicle is described as a small white SUV with damage to the hood area and heavy damage to the windshield. Troopers are asking the public for their assistance in locating the hit and run vehicle and driver. Troop D has investigated 10 fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths in 2022.
