Laplace – On Friday, October 24, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a dead body discovered on LA 628 near Chaisson Lane in St. John the Baptist Parish. The person was identified as 66-year-old John Martin of Montz.
Troopers discovered that on October 23, 2025, a family member reported Martin missing to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, after not being seen since the evening of Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Evidence at the scene indicated that Martin’s body had been there for several days prior to the start of the investigation.
Through investigative means and autopsy findings, Troopers were able to determine that Martin died as a result of a crash. Preliminary findings indicate Martin was walking a bicycle in the eastbound lane of LA 628 near Chaisson Lane when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver continued eastbound without stopping or providing reasonable aid. This crash remains under investigation.
