Bicyclist Killed in Early-Morning Livingston Parish Crash
Denham Springs – Shortly after 1:20 a.m. on April 27, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on LA 1026 near Magnolia Boulevard in Livingston Parish. The crash claimed the life of 13-year-old Matthew Temple of Denham Springs.
The preliminary investigation revealed Temple was traveling west on LA 1026 in the westbound lane on a Huffy bicycle. At the same time, a 2008 Dodge Dart was also traveling west on LA 1026 in the westbound lane. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge collided with the rear of the bicycle.
Temple, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Dodge was properly restrained and was uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
The Louisiana State Police reminds all road users to share responsibility for safety. Cyclists are encouraged to observe traffic laws, including riding as close to the right-hand side of the roadway as practical, except when passing or preparing for a left turn. Wearing a properly fitted helmet, using front and rear reflectors, and wearing bright or reflective clothing can significantly enhance a cyclist’s visibility. Motorists are also reminded to remain vigilant for cyclists and to allow a safe distance when passing.
