Ouachita Parish – On Saturday, September 6, 2026, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 34 near Smith Street. The crash claimed the life of 38-year-old Dustin Gray of Bernice.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 34, in the left lane. At the same time, Gray, who was wearing dark colored clothing, was standing in the left southbound lane of Louisiana Highway 34. For reasons still under investigation, Gray was struck by the Chevrolet.
Gray suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was properly restrained and uninjured. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

This allows pedestrians to see oncoming vehicles and react appropriately. Additionally, when walking at night, wear brightly colored clothing or reflective gear to make it easier for drivers to see you. These simple yet vital precautions can help keep pedestrians safe and reduce the likelihood of pedestrian-involved crashes.
