Baton Rouge Man Arrested on Drug, Firearm, and DWI Charges Following Traffic Stop

Baton Rouge – Shortly before midnight on June 2, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 westbound near Essen Lane in East Baton Rouge Parish after observing a vehicle traveling at an excessive rate of speed. The traffic stop resulted in the arrest of 20-year-old Kevin Camacho of Baton Rouge.

The preliminary investigation revealed Camacho was driving a 2021 Dodge Charger at 147 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. During the traffic stop, Troopers observed signs of impairment and initiated a DWI investigation. While conducting the investigation, Troopers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search.

During the search, Troopers located a loaded handgun, a digital scale, approximately 80 grams of marijuana, THC vape products, and packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of narcotics. Camacho was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for Reckless Operation, Driving While Intoxicated (First Offense), Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The investigation remains ongoing.

Troopers remind motorists that safe driving requires constant attention and responsible decision-making. Speeding, impaired driving, and other reckless behaviors place everyone on the roadway at risk. Making smart choices behind the wheel helps keep Louisiana's roadways safe for all travelers.
