Bastrop Man Killed in Morehouse Parish Head-On Crash

Bastrop – On Monday, July 8, 2024, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on US 425 near LA 830-6 (McCreight Street). The crash claimed the life of 32-year-old Terencio Ashton of Bastrop.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford F150, driven by 29-year-old Branderius Brooks, was traveling south on US 425. At the same time, a 2018 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was traveling north on US 425. For reasons still under investigation, Brooks began traveling south in the northbound lane of US 425. As a result, the Ford struck the CMV head-on in the northbound lane of US 425.

Ashton, who was the front seat passenger in the Ford and properly restrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Brooks, who was properly restrained, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. The CMV's driver and front seat passenger were properly restrained and uninjured. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2024, Troop F has investigated 24 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 deaths.
