Richland Parish – On Thursday, May 14, 2026, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 80 at Weems Road. The crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Courtney Temple of Winnsboro.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford F-150 was traveling south on Weems Road, approaching U.S. Highway 80. At the same time, a 2013 GMC Sierra, driven by 38-year-old Allen Stewart, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 80. The driver of the Ford, who was presented with a green traffic signal, attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. Highway 80. For reasons still under investigation, Stewart disregarded the red traffic signal and struck the right side of the Ford.

Temple, who was the front seat passenger in the Ford and properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was also properly restrained, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Stewart was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.

During the investigation, Stewart was determined to be impaired at the time of the crash. Upon his release from the hospital, he was arrested and processed into the Richland Detention Center for vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, resisting an officer, traffic-control signals, operating vehicle while license is suspended, and vehicle license required. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to remind all motorists that if you feel differently, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and other drugs have many effects on the body that negatively affect driving skills. These drugs can impair visual ability, alter the sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and designate a sober driver. Not doing so can have deadly consequences.
