Opelousas – On December 18, 2025, around 1:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a two-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 190 near Lee Street in St. Landry Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 84-year-old Larry Guidry of Basile.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Guidry, was exiting a private driveway while a 2009 Cadillac Escalade was traveling east on LA Hwy 190. For reasons still under investigation, as the Chevrolet attempted to turn left onto LA Hwy 190, it failed to yield to the approaching Cadillac, and was struck.
Guidry, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Cadillac, who was unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to remain alert and attentive while driving. Avoid distractions, fatigue, and impairment, and obey all traffic laws. Making safe decisions behind the wheel can help reduce serious injury and fatal crashes.
