Bastrop – On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began
investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 590 at Gum Springs Road. The crash
claimed the life of an 80-year-old man from Hamburg, Arkansas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 590 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police remind motorists to make safe decisions every time they get behind the wheel. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always wear your seat belt, obey posted speed limits, and remain alert to changing roadway conditions. Taking a few extra seconds to buckle up or slow down can be the difference between life and death.
