11-year-old Dies in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Baton Rouge – Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on October 30, 2021, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 946 (Joor Rd.) south of Prescott Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 11-year-old Julian Jones of Baton Rouge.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as 18-year-old Derick Jones of Baton Rouge and his two passengers were traveling north on LA Hwy 946 in a 2006 Honda Pilot. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda exited the roadway to the right and proceeded into a canal bordering the roadway.

Julian Jones sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Derick Jones was not injured during the crash. The additional passenger sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. Restraint use on the part of all three occupants is unknown at this time. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Derick Jones for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
