Mobile Field Force (MFF)

The Mobile Field Force (MFF) is a unit capable of providing a rapid and effective response for a variety of policing functions and missions. A component of the Crisis Response Section, MFF is comprised of personnel from various sections across the State. MFF is organized into three regional operational platoons corresponding to regional geographic areas, as well as an arrest-processing team. Troopers volunteer to be a part of the MFF in addition to their assigned duties. The primary missions for MFF response are high-profile or high-security events, assisting other agencies, civil unrest, natural disaster operations, and support of the Louisiana State Police SWAT team.

The MFF maintains a constant level of readiness and response capability, which is sustained through monthly trainings. Personnel on the MFF must maintain a minimum qualification of 90 percent on the Louisiana P.O.S.T. firearms course as well as ensuring they are skilled in de-escalation and defensive tactics.

The Louisiana State Police and the MFF recognizes and safeguards the constitutionally protected rights of all people to peacefully assemble. Each year, the MFF responds to various large crowd gatherings to ensure the events’ lawful activities can be enjoyed by all. Most notably is the annual Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans where the MFF supports local law enforcement during the five-day celebration to include the world-famous Bourbon Street.

Historically, the MFF responded to assist with the recovery of debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. The unit has also been utilized for numerous hurricane recovery missions, including Hurricane Lara in Lake Charles and Hurricane Ida in Houma and the surrounding communities. In addition to hurricanes, the unit has supported our law enforcement partners in areas such as Ruston, Ville Platte, St. Bernard, and New Iberia following tornados that impacted these areas.

Moving forward, the MFF will continue working to make sure it remains ready to respond to situations in support of the Department’s public safety initiatives.
