Lithium-Ion Batteries in E-Mobility Devices, Games, Toys, and Collection/Disposal Methods

Lithium-ion batteries have become increasingly popular in various electronic devices, including E-mobility devices, games, and toys. While these batteries offer numerous benefits such as high energy density and long lifespan, they also pose a significant fire risk if not handled properly. This 8-hour will explore the role of first responders in responding to lithium-ion battery fires in these devices and discuss the collection and disposal methods for these potentially hazardous batteries. This training is invaluable and will meet the requirements for all hazmat teams. This training also qualifies for an 8-hour refresher for Hazardous Materials Technicians.

Prerequisite: None

Textbook: The training materials are provided at no cost to the student by the program.

Personal Protective Equipment: All necessary Personal Protective Equipment for this course will be provided. Medical monitoring will be performed as needed prior to any training field activities. Medical monitoring must show a student’s blood pressure to be below the NFPA 1582 Stage 2 Hypertension standard (i.e., systolic pressure greater than or equal to 160 mm Hg or diastolic pressure greater than or equal to 100 mm Hg). Students who cannot meet this standard will not be allowed to participate in training field activities that are required to complete the course.

Course Fee: FREE for Louisiana and Federal First Responders

Dress Code: Training attire for all courses is long pants, closed-toe shoes and short or long-sleeve shirts.

Lodging: Lodging is provided at the Joint Emergency Services Training Center (JESTC) Staff Development Center at no cost for students who reside outside of 50 miles from the training site.

Meals: Due to the remote location of JESTC, lunch is provided for all students, and additionally, breakfast is provided for students who require lodging at the Staff Development Center.
