Metairie - Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on December 9, 2023, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on I-10 near Causeway Blvd, in Metairie. The crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Brittany M. Delpit of New Orleans.

The initial investigation revealed Delpit was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt west on I-10, exiting Causeway Blvd. For reasons still under investigation, Delpit entered the exit lane, failed to maintain control of the Chevrolet, and impacted the crash attenuator. The initial impact caused the Chevrolet to rotate across the westbound lanes of I-10. At the same time, a 2020 Ford Eldorado mini-bus carrying 17 passengers was traveling west on I-10 and impacted the Chevrolet.

Delpit was unrestrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Several passengers on the mini-bus were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment is unknown, and a toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists always to make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. We ask you to take three seconds to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of preventable death in motor vehicle crashes. Avoid driving while distracted or impaired at all costs, as these choices pose serious threats to yourself and others sharing the road. Stay focused, alert, and responsible whenever you get behind the wheel. Your commitment to roadway safety is a crucial step towards ensuring the well-being of everyone in our community.
