Unrestrained Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Iberville Parish

White Castle – Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on April 1, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 1 near the intersection of Texas Road in Iberville Parish. The crash claimed the life of 18-year-old Khai Alexia Walker of Brusly.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Acura TL, driven by Walker, was traveling northbound on LA 1 near the intersection of Texas Road. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F-650 tow truck was traveling southbound on LA 1. For reasons still under investigation, the Acura and the F-650 tow truck collided head-on. After the initial impact, there was a secondary impact between the vehicles.

Walker, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Acura, who was also unrestrained, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Ford F-650 tow truck was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. This crash is still under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
