Unrestrained Driver Killed in Ouachita Parish Crash
Calhoun- On Thursday, December 8, 2022, shortly after 11:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a one-vehicle crash that occurred on U.S. Hwy 80 west of Laney Crocker Road.  This crash claimed the life of 30-year-old Samantha F. Simon of Calhoun.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Simon, was traveling west on U.S. Hwy 80.  For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet left the roadway and struck a tree.

Simon, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office.  Two unrestrained juvenile passengers were transported and treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to remind motorists that buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash.  Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences.  Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.

In 2022, Troop F has investigated 30 fatal crashes, resulting in 33 deaths.
