Unrestrained Denham Springs Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Denham SpringsEarlier today, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on LA 1032 at Hillon Hood Road in Livingston Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 73-year-old Carol Jones of Denham Springs.

The initial investigation revealed that Jones was driving a 2017 Nissan Versa headed south on LA 1032.  At the same time, a 1999 Ford F-350 pulling a 30-foot gooseneck trailer was traveling south in front of the Versa.  For reasons still being investigated, Jones attempted to pass the Ford in a no-passing zone and struck the Ford while it was making left turn on Hillon Hood Road.  The impact caused the Versa to overturn and Jones to be ejected.

Jones was not restrained at the time of the crash and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.  The passenger of Versa, also unrestrained, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.  While impairment is not suspected of the drivers, standard toxicology samples were taken and analysis is pending.  This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics demonstrate that properly worn restraints can significantly reduce your risk of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in crashes.
