Two Drivers Killed in Head-On Crash
Zachary – Shortly after 12:00 am on September 10, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 67 south of LA Hwy 64 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the lives of 16-year-old Brandon Cheatham of Zachary and 34-year-old Anderson Wright of Baton Rouge.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Cheatham and his passenger were traveling northbound on LA Hwy 67 in a 2020 Chevrolet Impala. At the same time, Wright and his passenger were traveling southbound on LA Hwy 67 in a 2020 Nissan Maxima. For reasons still under investigation, Cheatham entered the southbound lane of LA Hwy 67 in an attempt to pass another northbound vehicle. After entering the southbound lane, the Chevrolet struck the Nissan head-on.

Despite the fact they were properly restrained, both drivers suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. They were pronounced deceased on the scene. Both passengers were properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
