Texas Resident Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

Published: 02-23-2024 | Category: Troop A

Sorrento – Shortly after 6:30 pm on February 22, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on I-10 eastbound west of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of 37-year-old Karissa L. Harris of Orange, TX.

The initial investigation revealed that Harris was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. For unknown reasons, the Ford exited the roadway to the left and entered the median. The vehicle then then struck several trees before overturning.

Harris suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was not properly restrained, and impairment may have been a factor. A standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. A 2-year-old rear seat passenger was properly restrained in a child passenger restraint system, and despite being uninjured was transported to a local hospital for observation. This crash remains under investigation, and there is no further information at this time.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists the importance of making good decisions while in motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
