Scott - Shortly after 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 96, west of Scott. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Michael L. Grady of Waco, Texas.

The initial investigation revealed Grady was traveling west on I-10 in the left lane when the front of his Motorcycle struck the rear of a westbound Nissan Murano, also traveling in the left lane. The impact caused the Nissan and the Harley-Davidson to exit the roadway. Upon doing so, Grady was ejected from the motorcycle. Following the initial crash, several other motorcyclists were involved in a separate crash near the scene.

Helmet usage on the part of Grady is unknown. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Nissan was not injured. The motorcyclists involved in the separate secondary crash were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Impairment on the part of Grady is unknown, but a standard toxicology sample was submitted for analysis. The driver of the Nissan was not injured and submitted a breath sample indicating no alcohol present.

Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure they are adequately prepared and trained for various riding conditions. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to use these safety practices to avoid being involved in a crash and to reduce the chance of injury should a collision occur. Troop I has investigated 4 fatal crashes resulting in 4 deaths in 2024.
