Texas Man Killed in Head-On Iberville Parish Crash

Ramah – This afternoon, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on LA 3000 south of LA 76 (Rosedale Road) in Iberville Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 66-year-old Ronald Harter of Galveston, Texas.

The initial investigation revealed that Harter was driving a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on LA 3000. At the same time, a 2022 Land Rover SUV was traveling south on LA 3000. For reasons still being investigated, Harter failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, crossed the centerline, and struck the Land Rover head-on. As a result of the impact, Harter was ejected from his motorcycle.

Despite wearing a DOT approved helmet, Harter suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver and passenger of the Land Rover were properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. Impairment on the part of the driver of the Land Rover is not suspected. As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Harter and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Whether on motorcycle or in a vehicle, drivers should make good decisions while traveling on the roadway. Obeying all traffic control signs and signals, maintaining the speed limit, wearing a seatbelt when riding in a vehicle, and not driving while impaired, fatigued, or distracted can often mean the difference between life and death.
