State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Pointe Coupee Parish

Fordoche – On August 10, 2023, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A were requested by the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a single-vehicle crash on LA 77 near Smith Acres Lane. This crash claimed the life of three individuals who have not yet been identified. 

The initial investigation revealed that deputies with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office were involved in a pursuit with a stolen 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. The pursuit entered Pointe Coupee Parish and as the Nissan traveled north on LA 77, the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve. As a result, the Nissan traveled off the roadway striking multiple objects before impacting a tree and becoming engulfed in flames. 

Three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. One occupant suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Troopers are working to identify the subjects involved in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation by LSP. Deputies from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office will investigate the pursuit and criminal nexus related to this incident.
