*UPDATE* State Police Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in East Feliciana Parish

Jackson – Louisiana State Police investigators continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in East Feliciana Parish on April 4, 2024. The incident claimed the life of 37-year-old Jonathan N. Johnson of Jackson.

The initial investigation revealed that shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 4, 2024, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (EFPSO) deputies responded to a domestic violence incident in Jackson. Deputies were notified that Johnson was in possession of a firearm. When deputies arrived, Johnson fled into a nearby wooded area.  EFPSO requested K-9 tracking assistance from Dixon Correctional Institute (DCI), who responded to the scene. Shortly after 11:00 p.m., DCI officers located Johnson and instructed him to surrender. Johnson discharged one round from a firearm, prompting DCI officers to return fire in Johnson’s direction. 

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other individuals were harmed during this incident. The LSP Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene. This is an active investigation. An autopsy will be performed, and further information will be released when it becomes available.  

Initial Release 4/5/2024:

Jackson – Shortly before midnight on April 4, 2024, the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (EFPSO) requested assistance from the Louisiana State Police – Bureau of Investigations to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in a wooded area near 4841 LA Hwy 68 in Jackson. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.

One subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.
