Single-Vehicle Crash in Plaquemine Claims Life of Driver

Iberville Parish – On February 6, 2024, just before 2:30 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 77, north of LA 992-3 in Plaquemine. The crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Brandon Parker of Plaquemine.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Parker was driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck north on LA 77. For reasons still under investigation, Parker lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the roadway while navigating a left-hand curve. The Chevrolet traveled down an embankment and impacted a tree.

Despite being properly restrained, Parker suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. While impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Speeding, impairment and lack of seatbelt use continue to be the leading causes of fatal crashes. Troopers encourage the public to have a plan in place to avoid driving impaired. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash.
