Pedestrians Struck, One Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 in St. James Parish

GramercyEarlier today, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash involving two pedestrians on Interstate 10 east of LA 641 in St. James Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 25-year-old Haley Williamson of Mobile, AL.

The initial investigation revealed that Williamson was driving a 2007 Lexus ES350 headed east in the left lane on Interstate 10 when her front, right tire went flat.  Shortly thereafter, Williamson stopped her vehicle on the left side of the roadway.  For reasons still being investigated, Williamson and a second pedestrian were attempting to change the tire, but were partially in the roadway. Subsequently, an Acura MDX traveling east in the left lane struck both Williamson and the second pedestrian.

Williamson suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The second pedestrian sustained minor injuries and refused aid.  The driver of the Acura was properly restrained and uninjured.  Impairment on the part of the driver is not suspected; however a standard toxicology sample was collected.  As part of an ongoing investigation, an autopsy of the deceased will be performed by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office.  This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers urge drivers to exercise caution when pulling over on the roadway.  If you find yourself in a situation where you need assistance, please dial *LSP (*577).  For safety, it’s imperative to utilize the right shoulder of the roadway if your vehicle becomes disabled.  Motorist can also contact the DOTD Motorist Assistance Patrol which provides many free services, including change of tire.  If you become stranded and need assistance, please contact your local law enforcement or Motorist Assistance Patrol.  In an emergency situation, dial 911.
