St. Martin Parish – On March 8, 2024, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 347 near Guidry Road. The crash claimed the life of 82-year-old Jannell Dore of Breaux Bridge.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Nissan Titan was traveling north on LA 347. At the same time, Dore was walking west, attempting to cross LA 347, when she was struck by the Nissan in the northbound lane.

Dore suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

Impairment on the part of Dore is unknown, and a standard toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. The driver of the Nissan submitted a breath sample, which showed no alcohol present and displayed no signs of impairment. Toxicology results are pending, and this crash remains under investigation.

While nearly 70 percent of pedestrian fatalities occur at night, troopers urge pedestrians always to maintain heightened awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, not walking too close to roadways, and walking against traffic flow could prevent most pedestrian-related crashes.

Troop I has investigated eight fatal crashes, resulting in eight deaths in 2024
