Pedestrian Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Ouachita Parish – On Friday, December 01, 2023, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian on LA-594 near Radar Drive.  The crash claimed the life of 63-year-old Gregory Moore of Monroe.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling north on LA-594.  At the same time, Moore, who was wearing dark clothing, was completely in the northbound travel lane of LA-594.  For reasons still under investigation, Moore was struck by the Ford.

Moore suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.  The driver of the Ford and the front-seat passenger were properly restrained and uninjured.

Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrian safety is of paramount importance when walking near and crossing roadways. To reduce the risk of crashes, pedestrians should always walk against the flow of traffic, allowing them to see oncoming vehicles and react appropriately. Additionally, when walking at night, wear brightly colored clothing or reflective gear to enhance visibility for drivers. These simple yet vital precautions can significantly contribute to ensuring the safety of pedestrians and reducing the likelihood of crashes on the road.

In 2023, Troop F has investigated 38 fatal crashes, resulting in 46 deaths.
