Motorcyclist Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash

Slidell Last night, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 59 near U.S. Hwy 11 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old James O’Donnell of Slidell.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa, driven by O’Donnell, was northbound on Interstate 59. For reasons still under investigation, the Suzuki traveled off of the roadway to the left and into the median. O’Donnell was ejected from the Suzuki.

Although wearing a DOT-approved helmet, O’Donnell suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from O’Donnell and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while traveling. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
